key specification documents and Implementation Guides issues with SNOMED CT
on its initial release.
1999-2000 National Health Service Information Authority Consultancy on Read Codes - SNOMED CT merger Consultancy support on planning of technical details of the merger of NHS Clinical Terms (Read Codes) with SNOMED CT.
1995-1996 National Health Service Centre for Coding and Classification Read Code Version 3 Primary Care Consultancy. Consultation with GPs, suppliers and other interested parties for NHS CCC to identify costs, obstacles and possible migration
paths and implementation plans.
2001-2003 National Health Service Information Authority GP to GP Communication Project Technical and modelling lead on a project to develop and validate an HL7 Version 3 message for communication of Electronic Patient
Records between GP computer system. The output of this work now forms one of
the key strands in the more general work on communication of Clinical
Statements within HL7 and the UK National Health Service.
1999 National Health Service Information Authority XML EPR Project Core team member of a project to validate the EHCR message (CEN ENV13606-4) by implementing the message in XML. Four leading UK
suppliers of clinical systems produces real instances of the message in XML
for review by clinical professionals.
1999 European Commission ISIS Project ISIS European XML/EDI Project Member of the healthcare team involved in this European project to establish agreement on best practice for the use of XML in
messaging.

as ENV1068 but subsequently replaced by a new International Standard with
similar provisions (ISO7826).
1998-1999 National Health Service and Royal College of General Practitioners ScopeERP Project Member of the team that prepared an extensive review of Electronic Patient Record developments relevant to NHS primary care. The
report contains recommendations for action to enable the successful
implementation of the EPR in UK primary care.
1998-1999 Nottingham University CHDGP and PRIMIS Project Support Consultancy support to the use of the MIQUEST in the National Collecting Health Data from General Practice (CHDGP) and PRIMIS
projects.
1995-1996 National Health Service Executive Legitimising Computerised Patient Records in General Practice Drafted a report in consultation with the NHSE Performance Management Directorate and a joint subcommittee of the BMA GMSC, RCGP and
Joint Computer Group. This report is based on an extensive literature review
and contains a draft of Guidelines for Good Practice as a prerequisite for
altering GP terms of service to remove their obligation to keep paper
records. Subsequent revisions of this document now form part of the GP
contract relating to use of computers in practice.

1993 North Thames Regional Health Authority Primary Healthcare Teams Information Requirements Project Technical quality assurance for this North Thames RHA project and production of a "gap analysis" report with respect to GP
computer systems.
1992 - 1994 Northern Regional Health Authority MIQUEST Project Technical and clinical design lead on investigation of requirements for data collection from GP computer systems and specification
and pilot of technical proposals to meet these requirements. The project was
funded by the Department of Health & Northern RHA and led to the MIQUEST
Specification which since 1999 has been implemented in all accredited UK GP
computer systems.
1992 National Health Service - Information Management Group Requirements for Accreditation for General Practice Computer Systems Formulation of version 1 of the requirements based partly on the work of the AAGP project and other sources. Consultation with medical
professional bodies, system suppliers and health authorities and subsequent
revision of the requirements.
1990-1991 Department of Health Activity Analysis in General Practice (AAGP) User assurance co-ordinator and independent quality review consultant to UK Department of Health. AAGP was also known as General
Medical Practice Minimum System Specification (GMP MSS).

 Uses of Card Technology in Health Care

1995-1996 European Commission EU/G7 Healthcard Interoperability Feasibility Study Coordinator of a technical group involving industrial partners in EU funded healthcard projects. The role involved production of
reports based on deliberations of this group on an implementable EU approach
to interoperability of data cards used for emergency health information.
Also involved discussion of EU proposals with official technical
representative of non European G7 countries (e.g. USA, Canada and Japan).
1994 National Health Service Information Management Group Impact assessment of the possible uses of a multipurpose ID card for prescribing and establishing entitlement to care  A short study related to use of Smart ID cards and their likely value in healthcare.
1994-1995 European Commission Administrative uses of Patient Card Data Leader of working group within the Advanced Informatics in Medicine (AIM) concerted action EUROCARDS. The working group is producing
reports on the administrative uses of data cards in healthcare. Other
working groups within the EUROCARDS action are investigating other aspects
of Patient Data Cards, including uses for clinical information.
